Alte Oper Frankfurt joins the KULT

On 16 September 2026, Treppenhausorchester had the honour of ceremonially opening the 2026/27 season at the Alte Oper Frankfurt - naturally with the participation of a sold-out audience. With its project KULT, the ensemble once again blurs the line between musicians and audience members, actively involving spectators in the performance itself.

The evening began with a personal welcome in the foyer, where the musicians greeted audience members, inducted them into the “KULT,” handed out pictogram cards, and taught them a melody. Once inside the hall, Treppenhausorchester performed works by composers including Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Anna Clyne, while the central work of the programme was Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.

Using the pictograms, the audience was guided throughout the concert and encouraged to react and sing along, dissolving the traditional boundary between stage and auditorium. Once again, the Treppenhausorchester succeeded brilliantly in reimagining the concert experience and transforming the event into a shared communal experience for everyone involved.

The following evening, audiences in Kiel were also able to enjoy this unique experience at the Konzerthaus am Schloss.
