Scottish Ensemble

Founded in 1969, Scottish Ensemble has earned a reputation for ground-breaking cross-artform projects that redefine how classical music can be shared with audiences and connect with contemporary life.

At home in Glasgow, the Ensemble performs around Scotland and regularly tours to major venues and festivals across the UK and internationally.

Scottish Ensemble has pioneered projects that bring together music and movement, most notably 'Goldberg Variations - ternary patterns for insomnia', a choreographed work for musicians and dancers performed 50 times across the world including at London’s Barbican Centre, the Kennedy Centre Washington, and De Doelen Rotterdam.

Scottish Ensemble's latest project, Impulse, transforms the concert hall into a space of connection and energy, where familiar music feels entirely new. Choreographed by longstanding collaborator Örjan Andersson, this kinetic production featuring Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, sees all 21 players performing from memory and moving to the music.

Scottish Ensemble has won several awards, including a Royal Philharmonic Society award, a Classical:NEXT Innovation Award, and the Association of British Orchestras Green Award for its industry leadership in sustainability.
